Freezing Thaksin???s Assets: Right Move, Wrong Time

Thailands military junta has passed judgment on former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra: Guilty until proven innocent! Announcement number 30, as the official order by the ruling military strongmen is called, says all of Thaksins reachable assets will be frozen until he can prove he received them legally. So, in essence, Thaksin has been deemed guilty by a government that was neither elected nor selected. Thaksin has been given a guilty verdict by some guys with some very big guns. Im not saying Thaksin isnt a crook. Im not saying his assets shouldnt be frozen. What I am saying is that why couldnt this have been adjudicated while he was still the elected leader of Thailand? Why does it take injustice, in the form of a coup, to deliver justice, in the form of trying and convicting a corrupt elected official? Amazing Thailand!
