Support for Estoniarigamax43 sec - May 8, 2007On May 8 2007, around 2,000 people gathered on Doma laukums in Riga's Old Town to express support for Estonia. Despite the rainy weather, people joined hands and formed several circles on the square. Amongst those participating were many young people, Saeima deputies and members of the former Supreme Council, who voted for Latvia's independence. People holding the flags of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania stood in the center of square. while other participants joined hands to symbolically recreate the "Baltic Way", thereby showing support for the people of Estonia. This symbolic joining of hands also took place in Estonia and Lithuania. The initiators of the event were Lithuanian non-governmental organizations and student fraternities.
